When my mother committed suicide,  the minister came to visit and said "You don't seem very upset" this after I had cried non stop for three days. 33 years later I haven't forgotten that.

I also found out the world and his wife knew of somebody who had committed suicide.

I would say to your annoying, upsetting colleague,

"Stop right there! I am going through a VERY painful situation with my GC. Listening to you upsets me. Please change the subject NOW.

That is a polite way of putting it, otherwise you could tell her to shut up!" She is being very rude in my opinion so the sock may be the best way to go. I could send you my DH's size 12's.
