Title: Luise's New/Old Romance
Post by: LaurieS on January 01, 2011, 08:25:24 PM
Great news Luise.. now you can share more pictures with everyone.

I just looked up your camera at Sony and it appears that most of your manual is located on the disk that came with the camera.  The one thing that was not included that you may need will be a memory card.  Sony now allows you to use two different types and as long as they are fast cards you'll be good to go.  This camera does have a little bit of built in memory  but I wouldn't rely on that since the space if very limited and will only allow a couple of photos.

On your computer you'll need to locate the usb port for your cable, unless you have a card reader built into the computer, if you do not have a card reader then you will be attaching the supplied cord from your camera to the usb port in order to transfer pictures. Look below at my computer, I'm showing my built in card reader area and my usb ports
(http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb341/LaurieSS/usbport.jpg)

Below is a link to Amazon, just to show you what a sdhc (memory card) looks like, there are many sizes and speeds to choose from  http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Class-Memory-SD4-8GBET/dp/B00200K1SY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293942001&sr=8-1 (http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Class-Memory-SD4-8GBET/dp/B00200K1SY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293942001&sr=8-1)

The real problem Pooh is I can't describe things.. had Luise asked what a read reader looked like I would have used words like multiple thingie slots.. I do the same with my husband I take pictures if he can't understand what I'm saying.  A very long time ago (before digital) he accused me of not cleaning something.. anyway I started taking pictures of me cleaning.. now to get those express processed and printed was costing him a mint.. he stopped commenting.  Ok so maybe I too qualify as a true PIA :)

I use my hands a lot when I can't think of a certain word. Some interesting gestures have been innocently made. I stand there saying "...the uh, you know, the [gesture inserted here] thingy that uh [gesture] to the [gesture]..."

It's amazing I can order a meal or get my car repaired.

Pen, my hubby is a car fanatic and we will be driving down the road or watching a movie and he will say, "Oh my.  A 1997........"  I just stare blankly at him and he says, "It takes gas honey."  Ohhhhhhh.

Bless you heart, Laurie! Well, I have a memory card (Memory Stik PRO Duo 2.0 GB) but I didn't put it in the camera. I am not a photographer, I am more of a take a specific picture for a specific reason type. I downloaded the 137 page manual but I have been afraid to look at it. Then I charged up the battery, took a picture of my new curio cabinet I got for Christmas, downloaded it into my computer, got it over to my email and sent to Kirk. Haven't tried to put it in Photobucket. I was so anxious through the whole process that I haven't touched it since!  :(

What a wimp, right?

That's my first (and only) picture with my new camera. (My Christmas curio cabinet.)

The trouble is that I try for so long and I try so hard and then when I succeed...I don't know what I did!  :-\

I am going to a class late this month to try to learn more about this stuff!  :o

And I know I need practice and need to make friends with my Sony because it scares me to death. I just keep doing other stuff where I feel more comfortable. OK...I will take pictures of my studio apartment to send to my old boyfriend in Michigan and learn to print them...since he doesn't even know how to turn a computer on, I have to use snailmail!  ;D ;D ;D

I will face my camera-phobia...I will! (With Laurie to back me up!) Do you realize in 17 years I will be 100? (I'm going for sympathy here...)

You did good Luise.... FYI you can order prints through Kodak from photos that you have uploaded to Photobucket.  You can also have them mailed directly to someone if you choose.  You'll have a  blast taking the computer/camera class, between doing that and Curves we may never see you sign in here due to lack of time.  You're getting the hang of it all.. have fun with the camera.. next you'll be editing your photos

Hey, Laurie! thanks. I did find that photo editing program when I was in that project. Hummmm...I love what one of my sort-of daughters does along that line. She took some pictures of me and my high school sweetheart at Christmas when he was here from Michigan and when I saw that my left eye (where I recently had the cornea transplant) was almost closed...she said..."No problem, Mom... I will just replicate your right eye there."  And she did!!!

Yes I have had to put eyes into people in the past, and remove acne etc.  I use to have a really fun program but it does not work on my vista operating system and the company is not upgrading it so now I feel so very limited..  You need to learn how to crop a photo and resize, those are probably the two most important.. I have a program on my computer (free download) called shrink pic http://www.onthegosoft.com/sp_download.htm (http://www.onthegosoft.com/sp_download.htm) I used this ultra convenient program when I want to send photos via email but I  don't want to send huge files.. the photo size is automatically greatly reduced.

I am so far behind in sorting, renaming, and backing up all my photos, that I have to move this to a must-do-asap list...  Nothing would be worse then to lose your computer and your family photos on it.

Here is a New Years project that everyone should think about doing.  Has nothing to do with weight loss either, so you tall skinny people can participate as well.  Photograph everything in your house, inside cabinets, inside the garage.. your tv, and try to get your serial numbers if possible.  If your camera has a movie mode available, use that as well.  If you can prove you had an item in your house your insurance is more homeowner friendly in the event of a disaster of  any size.  Of course after you photographically inventory your house, you'll want to burn the pictures to disk and store in a safety deposit box or you can just send a copy to a relative to store, preferably one that you are not here expressing problems with.

I promised myself that I'm getting started as soon as I get my son (yikes who is  now living back home for a short time) off to Japan.  Good luck ladies.

I'll have to check that out Pooh.. I use Paint Shop Pro, but it was a little program called Picture It that I loved, as I used it for all my cutouts etc...like one time I was working on something for the softball team and was able to place each girl on a mountain top while running the audio 'ain't no mountain high enough'.  But I'll always look at new programs... thanks

Don't tell your teens to "get busy."

There are a ton of other phrases we have to watch out for as well but I can't remember them now.

We had a message on our answering machine last night.  It was a wrong number but the girl sounded in her teens and was speaking in text!

Ok, I text on my phone a bunch, and I use some of the abbreviations like: Lol, ROTFL and B4, but I still spell out everything else.  But now I need to speak in text?  I'm not kidding...the message was something like this:

"XXXXX, girl.  Where are you? L-O-L.  Well call me.  I have somthing to tell you and O-M-G you will be L-Y-A-O.  Hit me back."

I about died when I heard it.  My DH wouldn't let me call her back and say, "Girl...you got the wrong N-U-M-B-E-R."

Us older folks are trying to figure out what we are going to do here at 911.  The new 911 thing is called NG911 (Next Generation 911).  They are in the process of creating the technology to be able to receive 911 texts and videos from phones.  Not only is that going to require us to hire more people (money?) to be able to handle when 42 people text us and send videos of the same wreck, but we have been jokingly saying, "Ummm....is there going to be a class on all the abbreviations and how to figure them out?"  We joke, but it is a reality.

;D ;D ;D I'm 83 and Jim is 85. We met on a tennis court in 1942 and he took me to his prom (different school) in 1943.  We had a big fight in 1946 when we were both in college (not the same one) because I wanted a "friendship" ring and he didn't think it was a good idea to do anything that formal. ;D ;D ;D

He brought it (the friendship ring) to me and gave it to me this Christmas...2010 More  ;D ;D ;D!Can you see it on my right hand? My birthstone is in the middle, an aquamarine, and his on each side, yellow topaz.

We saw each other once between 1946 and 2010 when I went back to Michigan to my 50th high school reunion. Val and Tina were there and we all had a great time. They were coming out to see us in 2005 on their way to a cruise to Alaska but she became ill and they canceled. He called me when he put her into nursing and I told him Val had been admitted to nursing just 14 hours ahead of her. We were both pretty burned out from care giving but were glad we had been able to do it. Then she died, last May, he called again.

He was here for six days over Christmas on his way to the New Years Rose parade in Pasadena.

I will gladly admit I am a hopeless romantic!  And this one, fits that bill to a "T".  When he comes back, you should buy a pretty prom dress (same color you wore) and have your little studio set up with lights and decorations like your prom in 1943!  Music playing from that time period, some punch and little cakes....ooooohhhhh.

You guys are so fun! What a bunch of hopeless romantics...(me included, of course.  8))

I will see if I can get that black and white scanned for me by my sort-of daughter when I see her again. It was taken in 1946 after he got out of the Army. I'm in my Cadet Nurse uniform. The prom was in 1942. "Those Were The Days, My Friends, We Though They'd Never End..."  ;)

Back then we were too young, according to the mores of the times and our upbringing, to move beyond hugging. Now, we're too old!  ;D ;D ;D But that's OKl...the hugs are blockbusters!  :D :D :D

For those of you really enjoying this, get the book "My Boyfriend Is Back" by Donna Hanover. It explains the scientific phenomena as well as the romantic. Another sort-of daughter (I have 5) gave it to us for Christmas. And...prepare yourselves to get misty-eyed over this...Jim took it home with him and he reads to me from it every night. The last couple we read about, actress Suzanne Plachette and her guy, Tom, were 73 and 89!  ;D

Ohhhhh Luise,  This is just toooooo much for me~~I'm in Love with this man--does he happen to have a brother????????  How romantic.....this just inspires my soul and makes me believe in true Love all over again and that is it very real..... "Sigh".

That book is on its way to me and I cannot wait to get it.....another book which I will always Love is called "The Notebook"  by: Nicholas Sparks   of course the movie was out of this world, but the book was something else..... another "Sigh".

My Parents were very romantic, they would dance together in our living room, listening to Tommy Dorsey, The Ames Brothers, Nat King Cole, Lawrence Welk and on and on.....so how the hell I ever found my X only God knows....

Keep the stories coming....Love, Faith

Faith, I love Nicholas Sparks! I have read everything he has ever written.  If you loved "The Notebook" then you have to read the sequel to it that he finally wrote many years later.  It's called "The Wedding" and it is about Noah and Allie's oldest daughter Jane and her husband.  It is wonderful.  Here is a quote from the book that fits Luise's situation well.

"That's what I mean when I say that I did it for me. Every time I read to her, it was like I was courting her, because sometimes, just sometimes, she would fall in love with me again, just like she had a long time ago. And that's the most wonderful feeling in the world. How many people are ever given that chance? To have someone you love fall in love with you over and over?" – Noah

I render myself as speechless with celebrating the 1st moments of memories, that is what also keeps marriages alive....

My Dad always opened my Moms side of the car door, no matter where they went even if they were just going to the store, he always did that.  And always helped her with her coat on as well.  Now how come I cant find someone like that?????   Because they don't make'em like that anymore...or they are already taken........... :(

No, that is one I have never read.  I have picked it up a couple of times, but keep putting it back.  It just doesn't capture my attention like his romances.  The only book of his that I haven't cared for is "Dear John".  I have no idea why, but I didn't find it as good as his other ones.

I am very lucky to have found a very romantic man this go around.  He always opens my car doors, takes packages and bags out of my hand at stores to carry, gets up every morning and brings me a cup of coffee while I am in the shower, grabs me and dances around the room all the time, sings to me, reads to me, celebrates 6 different anniversaries (Lol...yep 6) every year, sends me flowers for no reason, takes my pocketbook from me while I try on clothes....I could go on and on.

One of the most romantic things he ever did was on our first date.  We talked for 5 months before meeting and during our conversations, figured out we had hung out at the same mall as teenagers but our paths never crossed (25 years earlier).  So after dinner, on our first date, he drove to the mall (I had no idea where we were going).  He opened my door and held my hand walking across the parking lot, and when we reached the sidewalk, he scooped me up and carried me into the mall (with about 20 people standing there watching).  He carried me in and set me down, put his hands on my face and said, "This is where this should have happened 25 years ago" and then leaned in and kissed me.  First kiss.

And Faith, I didn't think they existed any longer either.

For Christmas this year, he bought me the new Thomas Kinkade "Wizard of Oz" print that he just released in August, because he remembered me telling him it was my all-time favorite movie growing up and Thomas Kinkade is my favorite artist.

http://www.thomaskinkadeonline.com/index.php/new-releases/wizardofoz.html

But, and maybe this is because I am getting older, although he is wonderfully romantic, the things I find very romantic have changed in my head some too.  He is off work this morning, and before I left for work he said, "I will get all the laundry done and the house cleaned up today, so you don't have to worry about any of it and can enjoy your weekend."  Ok, NOW that is romantic!  He's so getting lucky tonight!

I remember, 1000 years ago, when my husband was in college and I was working. I came home and found him doing the ironing...and went bananas! He had wings...he was an angel...and I was his slave. (Do angels have slaves?)

Just so you guys know, he did exactly what he said, plus some!  He not only had the laundry done, dishes washed and everything picked up, he had mopped, vacumned, cleaned the bathrooms and washed the bed linens!

And I thanked him very appropriately, all weekend....... :-*

He's a keeper!

And by 'appropriately,' do you mean you let him watch all the sports shows he wanted and throw his empty chip bags on the floor? Or did you mean something else?  ;)  ;)  ;)

He does have a brother, who is an Einstein!  Walks around all the time with a book in his hand, is a big history and war buff, annnndddd never been married! He and my DH are almost exactly alike in personalities. Lol.

He has a girlfriend that has been with him for about 4 years now.....that none of us like! She is very selfish and self-centered, so opposite of him.  So we all smile nicely at family things and just hope he figures it out!  Lol.
