Title: Hello
Post by: Doe on August 18, 2011, 07:34:01 PM
I'm not really sure where to introduce myself since I don't have any pressing questions right now but I thought I should before starting to comment on threads.  (I did read the Open This First file)

Someone recommended WWU at another online forum I tried out.   I was in a funk (as a newbie MIL and GM) about how to handle a difficult DIL.  Basically, I couldn't figure out how to deal with her and didn't want a lifetime of walking on eggshells around her.   It was so empowering to read some of the stories here!  I wasn't at the victim stage yet, but I had totally lost sight of who I am beyond my Mom role.

I really appreciate the tone of the DILs here.   I was really surprised at some of the vitriol directed at MILs on the web, even on forums for MILs!

So anyway, thanks very much for building this place and keeping it alive!

Welcome Doe,

I'm sorry about your situation with dil, but glad you found us.  You'll find lots of advice here.  Luise's site has been a lifesaver for many of us.

Welcome Doe!  How lucky are we that Luise created a website that emphasizes love and compassion as the tools for understanding and healing from the pain of family troubles.     It's a formula that works for me!

Welcome Doe!  That's one of the things I love best about this forum.  We have rocking DILS and rocking MILs here that don't have that "all DILS or MILS are horrid".   We are not afraid to disagree and put different points out there...but no one has a "I'm right and you're wrong" attitude and do it respectfully.  I think our members have more of a mindset that we are different and diverse, but share a common bond of sympathy, empathy and understanding.  That's what Luise and Kirk and the great group here have given me.  A chance to be me.
