Title: What DH & I did for ourselves the other day
Post by: fangle on April 13, 2013, 07:36:25 PM
Hello Wise Women,
I have been busy doing things for myself that need doing and have been very happy doing them.  I was going to write this under the Grab Bag - What have you done for yourself today.  I decided not to - that is such a positive thread and I didn't want to bring my 'In Law' themes into it, in case it made any body uncomfortable.  So, this is what DH and I did the other day....
We gathered up all of the poison pen letters we had ever received - they were only from his parents.  We then ripped them up.  We were glancing over them as we were doing it and noticed a theme that we could not have noticed when we received one letter/email at a time.  (We are email printers).
We noticed that it appeared as though DHs parents were trying to convince us to not be together before we were engaged, during the engagement, around the wedding, after the wedding etc.
We also noticed that they used their poison pen letters and threats and actual mini estrangements as a sort of punishment that had sort of gone unnoticed becuase the idea of not being together had never crossed our minds.  We are soul mates, best friends.  We laughed at the idea of it and kept ripping.
DH took the paper to the recycling and I made us a cup of tea.  It was a weight off both our shoulders to have that stuff out of our home. xo

I know many people shy away from written communication, but here is one plus.  It can be quite catharctic to physically destroy the poison pen letters.  Good for you.

I once had a terrible year filled with illness and loss.  I took my calendar out on New Year's eve and burned it one month at the time.  It was cathartic.  Then I started the new year with a new attitude.  It is amazing how such simple things can be an outward sign of an inward shift.  Good for you!!

I did that years ago, when I was finally able to move past a longstanding issue I'd been stuck in for ages. I took my voluminous, written venting and burned it; then I dug a hole a buried the ashes!

Great idea. My next project is to go through my computer and delete delete delete. I once read, it's good to have a friend who knows your passwords and deletes everything in your  computer and FB etc. in case you should be the first one to push up the daisies. 8)

I've asked my son to initialze my hard drive, re-enter my operating system and sell it...empty. (Unless by then, it's more valuable as an antique. LOL!)
