Good morning lovely ladies,
I am considering starting a small home run business of fragrant soaps, bathbombs, reed diffusers etc.
I would welcome any advice from you, anything at all.
I also need a name
If you are able to suggest a name I decide to go with, providing you want me to send to you, I will send you a selection of my goods.
thankyou very much
Oh and I am in outback north/ western NSW Australia.
I will have to put on my thinking cap and see what I can come up with.
Will tell you a funny story about my DH and his soap makings. One of his hobbies is making soap. He's done a lot of experimenting and we give his soap to friends/family, etc. I was having a gathering of my friends once and made up little bags of his soap and gave them all a bag. A few days later, one friend of mine called and said "Tell Mr. J that I don't stink no mo." So, that is our funny name for his soap making enterprise - Mr. J's Stink No Mo Soap.
I know you want something much more exotic than that though!
That is so exciting! Are you planning on doing a website? I'm going to have to think on some names too, all that comes immediately to mind are corny Aussie jokes lol.
That is exciting... oh Julia make it a contest .. she who comes up with the best name gets a free bath bomb
Hi Julie,
Do you have a wholesale source for supplies? I use a good company that has quality essential oils, etc.

Soap on a rope is a huge joke in the men's bathing areas.. but we won't go there.
Are you looking for something that indicates your location?

yeah it was pretty bad but good try.....
I have just been in the garden gathering ingredients for my potpourri
Rosemary, lavender, pine nuts, cadagi seeds, seed pods of all kinds , cones, gorgeous white bark, roses, bottlebrush, Grevillia. It is amazing what lovely seeds pods are on the eucalyptus. I did enjoy it. My 2 girls 14 and 18 have just left in dd car to see friends in town. 58k's on a very quiet stretch of road and they won't be home until 11.00 tonight.....dd hit a kangaroo on her maiden voyage a few months ago,,,now I will worry until they get home!!
Do you have any kind of icon or branding image you're going to use? Color? It will give me a little more of an idea to narrow it down.
i really want a bathbomb
I don't even have a bathtub and I want a bathbomb :)

Julia,
I use Starwest Botanicals, Inc. 1800-800-4372. They have alot of various products
including dry herbs by the pound, essential oils, tea pots, etc.
I don't know if you will need a business license. I am able to get wholesale as a
health care prof.
I have made things for xmas like bath salts, etc.
I've thought of a business like yours, but, never got motivated to get going with it.
enjoy, I think this could be fun.
One funny story: a friend and I made bathsalts with alot of lavendar essential oil in it for xmas gifts one year.
It involved mixing up big bowls of sea salt, epsom salts and lavendar essential oil with our hands and then bagging it
up. Lavendar is deeply relaxing and stress reducing. By the time we were done, we both needed to go
home and go to sleep we were so relaxed.
Tara,
Do you have this recipe? I love lavendar, and need to send some gifts out. :)

Holly,
Yes, will send it to you. It might take a day or two to round it up
Holly,
will post the recipe here incase anyone else is interested.
Bath Salt Formula:
8 c sea salt
4 c epsom salt
1 c baking soda
13 c total
relaxing bath:
lavender 30 drops
ylang ylang 13 drops
bergamont 7 drops
When I have made it, we have also mixed up the essential oils, for example you could
just use lavender oil if you wanted.
also, I see that we estimated about 6 drops per 2 cups when we made it for xmas
we also added essential oil drops if I remember right.
A nice way to present this is in a cellophane bag with a gold or silver tie
and a lable. I used my psudo company name: East West Trading
I love every suggestion..(bloody good smells might be just a bit aussie, hick )
Ok,Aussie, spirit, outback,
Pam1. this should sum it up. (we Don't have mountain ranges.)
The love of field and coppice,
Of green and shaded lanes.
Of ordered woods and gardens
Is running in your veins,
Strong love of grey-blue distance
Brown streams and soft dim skies
I know but cannot share it,
My love is otherwise.
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me!
A stark white ring-barked forest
All tragic to the moon,
The sapphire-misted mountains,
The hot gold hush of noon.
Green tangle of the brushes,
Where lithe lianas coil,
And orchids deck the tree-tops
And ferns the warm dark soil.
Core of my heart, my country!
Her pitiless blue sky,
When sick at heart, around us,
We see the cattle die -
But then the grey clouds gather,
And we can bless again
The drumming of an army,
The steady, soaking rain.
Core of my heart, my country!
Land of the Rainbow Gold,
For flood and fire and famine,
She pays us back threefold -
Over the thirsty paddocks,
Watch, after many days,
The filmy veil of greenness
That thickens as we gaze.
An opal-hearted country,
A wilful, lavish land -
All you who have not loved her,
You will not understand -
Though earth holds many splendours,
Wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country
My homing thoughts will fly.

*Julia's Outback Scents* -- It has a nice ring, Julia, but wouldn't it disqualify you from receiving the bath bomb? : )
Tara,
Thanks for the recipe...I will try to make this in August on my school break. I have 5 friends I owe sommething homemade to.
I may make some extra for myself. My bedroom has a whole bowl of lavender seeds in it that I got in California. They still smell, but not as strong.
Holliberry 8) yr welcome

Tara,

Six (6) friends
LOL. If you can wait that long I'll gladly make it 6. LOL.
The 5 friends was a Facebook thing. The first 5 people to comment on my status in January got something homemade from me...sometime during this year, and they have to keep it going. I was having a hard time coming up with something until I saw Tara's message.
I was debating about ripping a page out of coloring book and dazzling them with my crayola skills. Tacky, I know. The bath salt seems so much more classy and fun. I can't wait. Just need your address. :D
I debated and debated about whether or not to put a tub in my master bath.. in the area where the tub is suppose to be I put an exterior door and we put the pool on the side of the house instead of the back.. so I can run from the pool to the hot shower in theory.... lol.. so I don't have a tub.. which means that I will never enjoy a bathbomb or soaking salts.. I'd have to go to the local motel in order to soak. Oh I know what you can make.. how about salts to soak your feet in.. don't need a bathtub for that.
I love my tub....I combine my bath with cramming for finals and I don't feel nearly as stressed. Happy medium for me. that wouldn't work well in a shower.
Just stick the bathbomb in the pool
Hey Holly, soap is easy to make homemade too and it can look classy too :) A lot of the hobby stores carry blocks of soap and inexpensive molds. You can probably make some soap for 20 bucks for 5 people.
Oh, I like that idea. I'll have to look into that too!
I've been trying to think of a name for the company...trying to incorporate the poor smooshed roo into the mix, something like "Squashed Roo Shampoo" or "Dented Car Beauty Bar" or whatever. Yeah, my sense of humor is little warped.
Dented Car Beauty Bar has my vote! LOL!
Holly, this is what I think about during a long commute instead of the upcoming meeting. And I wonder why I'm not moving up in my career...
That's because they haven't recognized your natural talent for marketing yet! ;)
Julia, I'm still thinking. is there a deadline?

Pen, I know I have thought of them all to I did laugh, and am still laughing.
Pam,
no deadline well probably is, I think 2-3 weeks and I will get the labels printed. You girls are making it very difficuldt!!!
Sorry Julia lol. I just really want a bathbomb
She could make big brown bathbombs and call them "Roo Poo"
OMW. LOL. Pooh and Pen...quit your day jobs and market together!
Ha ha ha...we should
I was just in my daughters cupboard (No Scoop I was not snooping) and she has a bathbomb... she is at a dr appt. ... wondering if she would be upset if I tried it.. I did just take her plant shopping afterall

Just borrow it & hurry & put it back before she returns... ;D
you can smell bath bombs for ages after as they are soo gorge !
No escape for Laurie ...just a red face .. :-[
Really!? They are resuable!??? I did not know this!
I was just looking at it.. I thought you tossed it in and it fizzied till it disappeared.. and then you got in... you're telling me it blows up and I have this giant fizzing ball thing in the tub with me... where is the relaxation with that
They just disappear ....lol. leaving a mass of what's inside .....last one I used was full of rose petals ....can't believe you guys have never used them .
LOL, I hadn't even *really* heard of them before you came here, LL!
I had never heard of them either, but so want some now. Umm....Laurie, if you hijack it...what exactly are you going to use it in? I thought you had no tub?
She's at her DD's house.
Which means a bath is LOOOOONNNNGGGGG overdue. IMO.
Not encouraging you one way or another... :D :D :D
She doesn't just have a tub.. she has a garden tub.. no jets tho.. big pooey I told her that I was borrowing it tonight lol.. after we do a mother/daughter movie night... Last night was fun.. we ordered a pizza bigger then we could use and opened the bottle of Sangria... looked over all her wedding things. Told her bf not to bother us.. we were making decisions :)
Ah ha! What great fun! And definately a reason to hijack that thing and report back.
Sangria. Now THAT sounds fun.
OH...and so I don't have to google...
What is a garden tub? I'm envisioning a round corner tub with bathbombs with flower petals.
Am I wrong?
In this country they call they hot tubs .....fit up to 6 people ....hot steamy bubbles ....lol
not suitable for bath bombs ....
Used in the garden ....what a sheltered life you lead HB ...lol
if there are petals in the center of this bomb thingie.. you will be absolutely right... it is an over sized tub with rounded corners
Maybe I'll dissect the bomb before plopping it in there
no we have hot tubs.. usually attached to a swimming pool but can also stand alone.. I felt some lesbo'ish one time and never got back in one again.. well with a group of women lol. or a group of men for that matter..
A garden tub sounds quite nice, then.
We have hot tubs here, but we also have this awful show called Jersey Shore...so now I think hot tubs are gross.
this bath bomb thingie is really funny, it's nice to get up in the morning to some happy souls... well I haven't had a bath bomb either, just know they are gorgeous. We have a large cast iron bath now, we built a new house a few years ago and i found this old cast iron bath in a neigbours paddock. (It was used as a stock trough.) I had it restored and it is gorgous. Bath bombs with rose petals, what a great idea...
A cast iron tub that is restored? I like that too!
I always wanted one of those on those big claw feet. I think they are just the most dreamy, romantic looking things in the world.
