Title: Possible WWU Items
Post by: luise.volta on July 09, 2012, 11:36:07 AM
Oh, I like that, Scoop. My ring is two Vs for Val Volta with garnet and diamond. I think I will look for a WWU ring! Anyone want to design one and point us to it?  :)

This would be my solution to the photo problem.  If they try to make you have a pic with Ex, hitch up your dress, kick off your shoes, give a big "Yee Haw" and start throwing out the peace sign each time they click the shutter.  You could switch back and forth between that and a rapper stance with a spread leg stance....they will click a couple and not ask you to be in anything else....that's what I would do   ;D

If we can't get a specially designed ring/pendant/bracelet, perhaps Luise could find one on Amazon or Overstock that would work? Or choose a gemstone color so we could buy the design we liked or use something we might already own? I really love the idea of wearing something that will cue us in during times of discomfort or stress, and knowing there are other WWU out there w/a similar piece would be even better.

P - I just love the idea, even though it started out as a funny comment. I am not into pendants...and I know a T-shirt would blow our anonymity but a ring seems perfect! I coulnd't find anything on Amazon but how about this with W.W.U. on it? (It could have been our grandmother's showing her initials, right?)

I don't wear bracelets, pins, pendants, necklaces or earrings because they make me feel like a Christmas tree. I have jewelry and often look at it when I get dressed up and try it on...but no go. I may be in the minority but I would vote for something I don't put on and take off, so when the need arises, I can rub my ring and the WWU Genie would appear. LOL!

I love the idea of a ring Luise, but I can't afford right now to fork out $200 on one.  I wouldn't wear it all the time as I have 3 rings I never take off as all are very special to me, and I can't imagine wearing a 4th all the time...Lol.

On the simpler side and less expensive, I saw this website where you can create and design your own custom small pin.  Looks like the pricing runs to the $1.50 range...Lol.  I'm a cheapskate.

(I wrote a teasing remark here but I deleted it because it didn't come across the way I had intended...which was  loving and kind.)

Pooh - I don't wear pins, as I said. It would go into that drawer. This may just be one of those unresolvable things because of our personal preferences and perspectives.

Or...maybe a committee? LOL! Or each of us could just do what appeals to us most and share? We can make it up any way we want to. The idea seems to appeal to a lot of us.

Again, thanks, Scoop!  ;D

LL, that's a lovely bracelet :)

Luise, how do you feel about crystal? Or is there a more meaningful gem color for you?

Crystal seems an affordable alternative, and many of us may already have crystal earrings, a pendant, brooch, earrings or a ring. We could each wear what we prefer/afford.

Fake gems would work in another color depending on what you choose, Luise, for those of us who don't want to spend big bucks on jewelry.

I think this is doable w/o anyone being inconvenienced financially. All Luise has to do is pick a sparkly and we can find/purchase/wear what we like (or not.) It will still be meaningful to us WWU-ers, lol.

Post by: pam1 on July 12, 2012, 07:10:29 PM
Oooh, I like your ideas, Pen!!

Perhaps, a certain gem stone (and Luise's favorite would be particularly nice as she is the founder!) or some kind of logo?  A theme or something that carries on, no matter what a member chooses (ring, pendant, bracelet) would be the way to go, IMO.

I think there are websites that let you design jewelry, but I'm not sure how it works when there is more than one buying.

If someone does have a logo or design in mind, please do share!  This is a great idea.

Post by: luise.volta on July 12, 2012, 09:31:41 PM
I guess I lost my post when I was trying to move things around.

Pen - When you referred to crystals, were you talking about a setting for a ring? I think I may be the only person interested in a ring. And perhaps the idea of a setting for something else would be better with each person choosing her own birthstone or favorite rather than getting what I like.

Pam - I love the idea of a Logo and we have artists here.
Title: Re: Possible WWU Items
Post by: Pen on July 12, 2012, 10:04:25 PM
Luise, I'm no expert but I believe crystals are set in many types of jewelry (from what I've seen in my Macy's sale catalogs!) If you were to choose a crystal or gem (real or manufactured) in a certain color, WWU-ers could follow suit with whatever type of jewelry they preferred. You may like to wear rings, but someone else might prefer to wear the gem/crystal color you pick in a brooch, bracelet, pendant or earrings.

IMO, we wouldn't all have to have the exact same piece of jewelry for it to have the same meaning/supportive qualities. This way it would be affordable/practical for more of us. We could shop at our personal favorite stores or raid our own jewelry boxes. Depending on what Luise picks as the sparkly stone, some of us may already own it!

A logo would be way cool, but custom-designed jewelry might not be in many of our budgets. If we could find a style that's already being manufactured in different types of jewelry at an affordable price, that might work. IDK, just kind of brainstorming here.

I like the idea of some piece of jewelry that we could wear to keep us connected to all the WW here.  I have a small cameo that has a loop at the top so it can be worn on a chain and also has a pin within so it could be worn as a broach.

I think a cameo profile is a good idea, maybe a profile of Luise, and a ring version.  It likely could be available in inexpensive and a more expensive model to meet the options that all the women have.

I'll keep my eyes open, and I love the umbrella idea, too.

:D Wow! What FUN! We are so incredibly diverse...so creative...and still so connected!  :D

I, too, wonder if we need to settle on the same thing. Who was it that suggested we not? Each one of us could buy a new piece of jewelry and endow it with our love for each other and our community. Maybe engrave it or even have WWU showing on it. Whatever. Then we could share with each other what we picked and why.

Pen - I love both the amethyst/healing and the aquamarine/spirit crystals. My concept is that when we heal (not transcend) the ego, the spirit soars.

I just found this on eBay (and there are more than one, if anyone else would want one):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-41-Ct-Oval-Purple-Amethyst-and-Aquamarine-Gold-Plated-Silver-Ring-/140792849067?var=#vi-content

I would have WWU engraved on the inside, if we all picked our own piece of jewelry. And when I touched it, my mantra would be "Sending love..."  8)

I don't know when I have had such a good time co-creating a concept and how to represent it. I think the last time may have been when I came up with WWU and Kirk partnered with me!  :D)

I love this ring!  I think I will bookmark the page.  I want it engraved as well WWU.  That is so cool.  What a neat reminder!  Couldn't help but feel support and encouragement when you see it on your hand.  A pretty, gentle reminder of our cyber family.  My mantra would typically be "warmest thoughts".

So awesome of luise to ship to wherever it needs to go if one of our family members are outside the U.S.  It's all good!

Post by: Elise on July 13, 2012, 06:32:12 PM
I am not a jewelry person any longer. I wear only a ring which I never take off that has meaning for me. I think I am going to have the inside engraved with WWU because I love the thought of rubbing it when I am in difficult situations with family and know it will remind me of all I have learned and continue to learn here which may help me not become reactive when things are tense in interaction. I am too old to be interested in superficial, if I ever was. Knowing at the core what keeps each other up at night and makes each other get up each day and continue on despite whatever hardships we may be going through, is a rare and beautiful gift we share together here. The fact I have never laid eyes on anyone here makes it that much more special, because it is a humanhood of connection way beyond what I have ever encountered. If the point of this life isn't connection to one another I can't imagine what is. I think this is for me the way to carry a tangible reminder of all of you with me always. And I love that no one will ever know for some reason. Thanks.

:D I continue to be blown away by this. You guys are such players!  :D

I think taking a special piece and having it engraved is yet another wonderful idea! We just keep coming up with them! And my offer to forward the one I picked out (and have sent for) is open to one and all. Just order it and have it sent to me, if possible. Thank, Pen, for the inspiration!   ;D

Luise Volta - 20420 Marine Dr., #b-7, Stanwood, WA 98292 USA

Those who want to be part of this can do anything they want to and only need to share if they choose.

I never take Val's ring off. I will also wear my WWU ring 24/7. Even in the morning when I am weighing myself and my ring(s) is all I have on. ;) I may go days without reaching out and touching all of you in this way...but when I want to, and maybe even need to, I want it 'there.' For others, that may not make sense. It doesn't have to. Each one of us can make this up any way that suits and many won't even be interested. That's OK, too. Our strength lies in our combined individuality. Hey, we could have a motto, too! That's yet another old saying I just made up!  :D :D :D

The aquamarine stones on each side of the amethyst are so pale they look clear, but in the sun, the color shows up. I still can't believe I got real gemstones in a $180 ring for $43!  :D

Stop tempting me!!!

I looked at that ring and besides being really pretty and besides being a reminder of the safe haven of virtual friendship we share here, as if that weren't enough, it said the stones correspond to Aquarius and Pisces, which would give it even more meaning because those are my DH's and my signs.

Like I need  prodding to do some retail therapy....

I have an idea for you, Luise.  Maybe Kirk could help if you're interested.

In one of your recent posts, you wrote "I'm more than a mother" and I thought - that's my item!  So I went to cafepress.com to create a necklace with that that engraved on it ("I'm more than a mom", though).

Then I thought that you should make some money from it since it was your words that inspired me.  I found out you can set up a WWU shop and have all sorts of saying printed on all sorts of things and sell them here and make a little side money if you want.

If you want to do this, here's the link to how to set up a shop:  http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/sell/?refId=27  and here's how to put it on the website: http://www.cafepress.com/cp/learn/index.aspx?page=library_optimizing

There's a live chat option on the cafe press home page and I got this info less than 5 minutes.

Just an idea.  You have no idea how many of your pithy quotes I have saved on my computer.

Kirk says: "I think it's a fun idea. Business model wise, you have to charge quite a bit for the items in order to make any money. Beyond generating income for you, it could be a great community building project."

I'm a little overwhelmed by the idea...but I'm willing to look into it. I don't suppose any of us wants to go around in a T-shirt that says "Wise Woman" on it. LOL! WWU would maybe work but right now I can't think of one thing I have ever written...

Thinking...thinking. Off the top of my head, after going to the site...I might want to start with a charm bracelet. What do you guys think? It would be the first thing...(while we were thinking of something to say on a T-shirt), not the only item. It would have one, round charm on it that said: "Heart to Heart" and under that it would say "WWU." (Or maybe it could say WWU on the back?) We could add other charms later on our own, if we wished, that reminded us of each other. A fountain pen for Pen or a duck for me...(the mother-duck)...or a bear for Pooh? Or just other charms that took our fancy or we could leave it like that. I could buy more than 6 and get a bulk rate of $12.60 each and then add postage which would vary a lot. Maybe charge what? $20? Just thinking. Kirk would have to do the tech work of putting the "store" on WWU and I would stumble around for a while, I'm sure. Just thinking...

CM - That's the beauty of it, right? We get the prototype and then we add what we want to it. I called Kirk, "Kirk E. Byrd" when he was a preschooler. I think I may get a charm that says that. He'll have a fit! LOL!

Thanks Rose! Good to see you here again! :-) Gorgeous stuff! I have no idea how any of this would work. Kirk advises me not to create much of an  inventory, due to my very limited (almost nonexistent) financial resources. I would order a few things and mark them up in price, I guess. I don't know who would want to pay me more than they could get things for by buying direct. Lots of questions floating around, and so far, very few answers. Doe put it out there and I found a charm bracelet. :-) Kirk is going to look at the software for the "Store." It's all pretty nebulous and looks somewhat impractical to me at this juncture. However, I'm totally open to dialoguing about the possibility. Sending love...

The bracelet is silver in color and there is no choice. It is "Brass, (with electroplated nickel, sliver plating, finished with a non-tarnish overcoat glass.") Per a live chat I had with them yesterday and printed out. And I agree that mugs and even water bottles might be fun. I've no idea how to do this and am on a strong learning curve. :-)

Well, the Luiseism that inspired me to go there in the first place was "more than a mother".

"The older I get the more fun I'm having" with a smaller "wisewomenunite.com" would be a great canvas bag for shopping.

"We give our kids the best we have to give but/and there comes a time when we need to see what else is out there."
This one is priceless, but a little long to print out.

And "My take is that trusting others is a lost cause." still makes me laugh!

I also like the "Luiseism" (and I hope I get it right) -- "You can't make sense of the senseless."  Doesn't that seem like a good magnet or bumper sticker or on a coffee mug????

So glad I just found this thread! I just got off the phone with my best friend who lives far away now, she is familiar with the AC problems we all have had and she always makes me laugh in spite of my tears. So we were thinking I should start a 'group' for 'MOTHERS OF INGRATES'....LOL, I know it sounds awful huh? But we did laugh. And then we got on a creative burst and thought about the old bumper stickers that said 'I'm Spending my Children's Inheritance'. Another good laugh. I was glad to see someone here looking into Cafepress as that was my first thought too.

How about a T Shirt with something like SOUC (SurvivorOfUngratefulChildren)???

Yeah, I know, it sounds bizarre, out there. But hey, don't we think like that when we've had enough??  My creative ideas are on a roll...hopefully will find something tasteful.  :D
