Title: Luise
Post by: Rose799 on September 29, 2011, 03:33:26 AM
Some of you have noted that Luise hasn't been on board for a few days.  Pen posted a few days ago that she was feeling under the weather.  Well, she still isn't feeling quite up to par.  She's been to the dr. & Kirk & Sandy are with her at home, taking good care of her.  It may well just be just a little bug, but I don't think it will hurt anything to ask of those of you who pray, to send up a few prayers with Luise's name on them.  Wishing you a speedy recovery, Luise, & sending oodles & gobs of love your way~

Yes, she's been sick for several days.  Started with her getting overheated out walking and went downhill from there.  She's still feeling very yucky but on the mend and Kirk/Sandy are there so she's getting help.

Keep her in your thoughts!

Kirk VandenBerghe here, Luise Volta's son. She asked me to post an update. Over the week, she's been slowly recovering from whatever it was that has been ailing her. The meds she received stopped the diarrhea, but the nausea, headache, lack of appetite, aching shoulders, and difficulty sleeping have been persisting, albeit less than a few days ago. Today, her blood pressure elevated and the people are her senior care facility, Warm Beach, along with her doctor, decided it wise that she be run through some tests. She's at the hospital now, and so far, so good with the tests. I know she welcomes your positive thoughts, prayers...whatever you do to assist remotely...so please know your support is appreciated.

Hi, all. Thanks for your caring. My mom is still in nursing at Warm Beach. Yesterday, she went to a local hospital, ran through a number of tests, and checked out fine. The doctor's advice for now is to wait and see how she does over the coming days. The expectation is that she'll get a little better each day.

Ok guys.  I signed on to my mod email account and Luise had sent us a message last night.  Here's her update.  Let's keep the great thoughts, prayers, wishes, energy...whatever you practice going for her.

Here's her message:

Thanks to all of you for holding the fort. I am sleeping a great deal and am exhausted beyond anything I can ever remember experiencing. I'm eating small amounts often and drinking enough water, finally. It is a virus "of unknown origin" according to my doctor. And because it hit so hard and I went down so far, he thinks it may take a while for me to recover. I have a friend from New Mexico, a massage therapist and energy worker, who is staying on campus to take care of me and Rosa so that Kirk and Sandy can get back to work.

The crisis is over and I want you to know that I feel your love and healing intention. Publish this if you want to. I am not checking in because I just don't have the energy. I love you, dearly.

to my knowledge Doe , non of us have ever met ....lol
This is Luise's site and baby . She was finding it hard going being the only moderator .
So she asked a few of the hero and long standing members to help her.
They each have their own subject topics and I think do an amazing job .
We are a cyber family and have grown to know each other through the site .
New members join on a regular basis , some stay , some go .
It was a lifeline for me when I really needed it , and I stayed ...... ;D

Cant remember well when this happen.  Could it be a year now?

Sorry I am getting this german condition lol (Alzheimer).

Lol.  It seems like we have been doing this for a long time.  It was actually just June 1st of this year that we started.  And you are remembering right Nana.  She needed help and asked for volunteers and some of these wonderful ladies here nominated us, which was very flattering.  I love this site and everyone here, and was here most days anyway, so I am glad to help and take some of the stress off of Luise.

Doe, it was to the point that Luise was thinking about shutting down the site because she was so overwhelmed between this and her other site.  I couldn't bear the thought of losing this forum and all the wonderful family I have made here.

Yep.  I couldn't bear the thought of WWU shutting down - this is the place that saved my marriage.  And Luise has  received tons of emails thanking her for helping them.  WWU is a special place, Luise did a bang up job.

I completely agree with all sentiments on this thread!!  Missing Luise much and look forward to her complete recovery!

This is an "accelerator" site. You know I might have gotten better and found more peace with my situation over time, but I never dreamed I could find so much support and help on a website!!  It has only been a couple of months, and the results seemed to me to be immediate.  It's like you all stepped on my "get well" accelerator peddle!
Title: Re: Luise
Post by: Pen on October 07, 2011, 09:23:54 PM
Hi all, thanks for the props to we mods. I too cannot imagine having this site unavailable; it saved not only my relationship with my DS (in the nick of time, speaking of accelerators!) but possibly my marriage as well. If I'd done anything to encourage DS/DIL to reject us, DH & DD would have resented me forever.

I was thinking this evening as I was doing a little site housekeeping how much work it must have been for Luise alone. I'm honored to be able to help and I love my fellow mods as well as all the members who give so much of themselves in their posts.

We miss you Luise, but want you rested and fit before you venture back full-time. No relapses for you!

I only read your message from Luise today. Thanks for posting it, Pooh and also thanks to all the moderators for keeping this site alive. It has become a source of strength for me too. It is a 'one in a million' site which really helps and offers genuine support. Must be a lot of work to moderate it. Long may it last.
I do think about Luise a lot and wish her speedy recovery. It goes to show how quickly things can change and how precious the present is. I'm so sorry that she has to suffer. It must be bad for her not to be able to participate at full speed. Hope she will pull through.
Much love to all and thanks again.

You know, it's funny.  When I volunteered to moderate I thought it's probably not that much to do, welcome people and delete the spam, no biggie.  Lol, then I got a taste of it -- I don't know how Luise did it by herself for so long.  She's one in a million herself :)

Dear WWUers, I just read this thread for the first time this morning and I don't know what to say. Thank you sounds pretty mundane. THANK YOU! This is the first time I have been online in two weeks. It feels like "coming home." What an incredibly loving family.
We will probably never know what got me. "A virus of unknown origin" sounds pretty lame. The diarrhea, two days of it, caused nausea and headaches, the nausea and headaches kept me from eating and drinking and caused dehydration...and the dehydration caused dangerously high blood pressure, 220. It was just an avalanche.
Kirk and Sandy were on site and took Rosa. They held the fort until my friend from New Mexico arrived. She is a very gifted energy therapist and stayed with me the second week after I got out of our campus nursing home. Another close friend is a therapist/therapist and worked with me every day on the phone a third close friend who has been a leader in the Seattle spiritual community here for over 35 years and publishes the New Spirit Journal took up her post on email, counseling me daily from there.
Lots to face and work though beyond the physical. Another level of burnout after going to see Val in our nursing home every day for the last year and a half and watching him die, one brain cell at a time. (His 100th birthday was Oct. 4th and I couldn't get out of bed.) And under all of that, the need to end a friendship with an old flame that seemed supportive but was based on his insatiable neediness. (More care giving.)
WWU would have crashed and burned without our beloved Moderators and all of you working so well together. I am so deeply appreciative because this is my "baby." You are my "kids." I am 84 but I put The Old Woman in the Shoe to shame. And "I have so many children I don't know what I'd do - without them - (you.)"
I'm about to get dressed (sweats over pajamas) and take my Rosa-dog out for a walk for the first time.
Please know that I have read every word on this thread and will read them many more times, in deep gratitude. Sending love...

Luise, you are the heart and soul of this site. Please give Kirk and Sandy our thanks for taking such good care of you. We knew you were in good hands and we knew we could somehow manage to bumble along w/o you, but we're so grateful to have our leader, guide, "mom" and friend back where she belongs. It's nice to return to your usual activities, isn't it? And how lovely that Val knew you. That's a precious thing.

It was Mother's day 2009 when you started this site and since then well over 5000 fivethousand messages of love and encouragement were sent into the ether by you. This is an amazing achievement! You have reached a great number of people who, like me, were in a situation where they felt they couldn't cope any more and the anonymity the internet provides has given all of us the security that we can 'vent' and be open about our feelings. This did only work because we can trust you because you are open yourself and you have the authority of life-long experiences of joy and pain.
We did miss you so much when you were ill and were glued to the screen waiting for news. Thanks to your charismatic personality we all feel like a functioning family where pains can be brought out into the open, something our real life families do not always allow us to. But being here and putting things into writing can heal our relationship with or FOO and we can try and see ourselves as they see us and gain more of an understanding.

I turned to this site back in April, I think, when I yearned for a sympathetic ear. Without your effort to keep this forum alive I would still be in limbo.
Get on top of the world soon. My thoughts are with you  - news of your health improving are always gladly received.   Much love

I feel likewise, Chelmsford36...  I arrived Nov. 1, 2010, to a welcoming committee like no other.  I've been thinking a lot to back then as this 1 anniversary approaches.  What would we have done without you, Luise?!  I know; I'd still be stuck in the muck!   :o

Luise, I'm so glad you're back, and feeling well enough to get out and about with Rosie.  We missed you.  I'm sorry that you had to release your friend, but am continually amazed at your wisdom and guts to be able to see when that's necessary and be able to follow through.  I'm so glad you're getting support in ways that you need.

Much love,

Elsie

Thank you. There was a lot of burnout that eventually had to be factored into how sick I got. I am on a mild, anti-depressant (the first time ever) for Seniors and have been referred to counseling. It can be relatively easy to go down and it can sometimes be a long hard, climb to get back up again. Sending love...

I'm feeling OK. Just low energy and easily overwhelmed. I love my community - each and every one of you! And I feel the support. :-)

I just bought Val a whole new wardrobe. His clothes were looking pretty tired...he's in our campus nursing home and the laundry there is hard on clothing if you are there a long time. I told him he gets new clothes for his second millennium! I'm not sure he got it or notices...but he looks great. Did you see his picture in "Biographical Sketches" taken on his 100th birthday? (Oct. 4)

Pssshhh....we miss you but YOU take care of yourself!  Get caught up on your other site, and we will keep paddling along here waiting until you have had time to recover.  Don't overdo yourself trying to get everything done.  As long as Pen continues to behave...no problems!   ;D

Moderators - I have read the Open Me First Section. ;)

I have been lurking and reading for a few days now and wanted to start off with this:

Luise - Thank you for starting this website which is, unfortunately, very needed.  Sending positive thoughts and energy your way for a continued speedy recovery.

To the tune of Louis Armstrong Hello Dolly ....

Hello Luise it's so nice to have you back where you belong! (You know the tune).

Maybe all of us WW should whistle or sing it in our own space!
Much love  :)

C - Oh, that's funny! I can actually see it and hear it!

And yes, being back in the land of the living is a real treat. Boy, was I sick! Some of it was emotional...from watching Val die one brain cell at a time every day for the last ten (10) years. I am on a mild anti-depressant and start grief counseling tomorrow. It just wears on a person and you don't know it until you topple and fall. A physical illness that you can't seem to recover from is a classic symptom of overload and as a nurse, I should have seen it coming. Too hard to see the forest for the trees.
