Just a thought - if MIL is the one pressing charges against you, have you notified your attorney about what she said to your mother? In some places this might be seen as a form of extortion and could help in getting your case thrown out. It doesn't really look good if the person claiming to be the 'victim' is letting their 'assailant' know they will plead their case IF you do xyz...

Yes in my state it was once called blackmail but no coercion. According the the statues in my state.
