"Welcome to WiseWomenUnite.com -- When adult children marry and leave home, life can sometimes get more complex instead of simpler.  Being a mother-in-law or daughter-in-law can be tough.  How do we extend love and support to our mothers-in-law, adult children, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, and grandchildren without interfering?  What do we do when there are communication problems?  How can we ask for help when we need it without being a burden?  And how do our family members feel about these issues?  We invite you to join our free forum, read some posts... and when you're ready...share your challenges and wisdom."

It seems like it would help to remember that you and your husband have the right to live however you want to live unless the child is not being taken care of properly.  Then, I feel she has a voice in your life.  Otherwise, she needs to butt out and let you live your lives.  Also, as far as the religion topic, she might not know she is offending you or she might be trying to change your views.  She might think she is helping or is trying to help and not realize it is bothering anyone.  You could try changing the subject or walking away when she starts some of these topics.  Your MIL needs to learn to be there for her children when they need guidance or help and not try to force it.  So, you could also say to her that you will definately come to her when you have questions and smile nicely and then walk away.
