"Welcome to WiseWomenUnite.com -- When adult children marry and leave home, life can sometimes get more complex instead of simpler.  Being a mother-in-law or daughter-in-law can be tough.  How do we extend love and support to our mothers-in-law, adult children, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, and grandchildren without interfering?  What do we do when there are communication problems?  How can we ask for help when we need it without being a burden?  And how do our family members feel about these issues?  We invite you to join our free forum, read some posts... and when you're ready...share your challenges and wisdom."

Great story, Jane  :D  You've got to keep a sense of humor about this stuff. I think I told you about my SM who sent back all our gifts to her in a box marked "Junk" with a note that perhaps DD could use the items for crafts projects. The very next year "she" got part of a flock of chicks and a bunch of bees, lol. No way could she send those back!

AM, I'm glad I didn't take my DS's advice to not gift DIL too. She is trying to be polite when we're together and I think she appreciated our taking the high road after she shunned us & said she hated us. However, I'm not spending what I did the first years of their marriage on either of them. They are adults with more than adequate incomes! I've always liked the non-profit or handmade, non-cluttery gift route best anyway and will more than likely do more of that when I retire one of these days.

Sesamejane, I really laughed out loud at that.  Too funny

I like couple gifts, maybe a membership somewhere or fancy gift basket.  To be honest, most people need nothing so experience gifts or edible gifts are the way I go.

DHs sisters ask for money every year.  I can't quite get over it b/c they are the ones insisting carrying on the traditions of buying for everyone, yet they can't afford to!  Errr, wanna give them a money advice book lol
