Oh Happy Day
« on: October 08, 2010, 08:08:49 PM »
I had to come and tell my friends about this.  We went with our son, DIL and GC to dinner and a movie.  Could not have been better or more love shown to me from everyone.  HUH?  I am totally perplexed now on what could have been going on with my son when I saw him last.  My Granddaughter too.  This was such a wonderful BDay.  My DIL was darling....just everything couldn't have been better. (am I dreaming)  NO IT HAPPENED!!!! Thanks for thinking of me.  I needed this so much.  My other DIL sent a wonderful email THAT SHE LOVED ME!!!!!   I must have died and gone to Heaven or something. See you on the other side.  ;D

Wonderful!  I can't stop smiling after reading this!  :D

Thank you, all of you!!  This is nuttier than a fruitcake.  All success or failure lies in the hands of your DIL.  You must make friends with her or this will not work no matter how much your son loves you.  I let all the times she let us down go away, I was happy and she could feel it.

Also, I made friends with Other DIL's family, who were so awful in the beginning that I can't tell you and would make any of you not want to be around them.

Both those things cured this and they were all to do with making up my mind to worship and adore my Daughers in law.  I couldn't have done it unless I meant it. I'm sure there are plenty of stumbles coming my way but right now, I am rejoicing. :)

Barely, I just read your post. I want to wish you a happy belated birthday and tell you that I'm so happy for you! This is such wonderful news!!!
You're so right when you say that DIL's are the key.
I think things could change with my DIL if we had a good relationship with her family, I'd love to, believe me, I'm just not at the point where I can ignore all the mean things that they do, also my jelousy gets in the way, knowing DS spends so much more time with them than he does with us, everytime I see them I'm reminded of this. I hope some day...

I know what you mean, Guest.  Until we had a good conversation with her parents, where she could see it, she was rude to us.  Before that conversation, which took place at one of the GC's functions, we had had a stand offish relationship with them because of past things they did.  I don't know what came over us that day but we just put it all out of our hearts. I'm so glad we did.  She worships and adores her parents.  It seemed to soften her and then and only then was she nice.

That's DIL #1.  Last night was with DIL#2.  She was darling and along with what we did, she made sure to get a very touching and meaningful gift for me.  My point is that DILs respond to adoration.  I guess we all do but mine demand it not just for themselves but towards their families.  No adoration, no relationship with them and that goes for our sons.  The sons do what they are told to do.

You have to focus on the DILs.  Not your son.

BT, Happy Birthday , A tad late I know.  :-\
I hope you don't mind but I was lifted by your Post and even though I do not know you or your story, I was VERY happy for you also! Hard not to smile when you see another person feeling so uplifted and happy.
I was wondering what you meant by " adoration"? Do you mean saying really nice things about them? Or bragging constantly about them? Hope you don't mind my asking? Thanks!

Barely there, so glad you had such a special day!  Sounds like you have worked so hard at this potentially difficult relationship.  Thankyou so much for letting us know what happened.  You were right DIL is the key!  Congratulations!!!!!!!  8)

Good for you. I am so happy for you. You are wrong that it is up to the DIL. The only one changing her behavior here is you and DIL is responding to it, which is wonderful.
