Aww....great job!  I'm so happy for you.  And I don't think it's bad that you are thinking something is up.  It's ok to be cautious after everything.

Yup. If it turns out okay, if all is legit, no harm done if you haven't accused them of sucking up for monetary gain. But it does look a bit fishy.

I'm not going to make anything for any grandbabies that may come along either, but for a different reason. I don't think DIL wants any reminders of our existence in her home, especially not handmade or heirloom items. All these years I've saved a couple of little outfits that were beautifully made for DD & DS by their GM and DAuntie. DDD isn't likely to need them; they won't mean anything to anyone outside of our family, so they may end up at the thrift store. Sad.

That is sad Pen.  I remember carefully packing away the boys things as they outgrew them, toys, books, special outfits.  I was saving them for my grandchildren.  Often I heard, "Mom, why are you saving this?" Or "Mom, why don't you throw that away?"  And I would always reply, "I'm saving it for my grandchildren."  DS was in the attic trifling thru my things looking for a toy that he wanted to give to FDIL's little brother.  She looked annoyed when I told DS he could borrow it but he had to bring it back because I was saving it for my GC.  So even FDIL knew at least a couple of years ago how much I was looking forward to my GC.

Thanks Pooh! I think we are all being cautious. ;D

Awwww, Muffin ! I know it's hard , but try to look at the good and trust.
I took up knitting - taught myself basic how to from the internet , because ,in my mind, "that's what Grandmas do !" LOL ! My mom has been gone over 15 years, but, man, she knit everything for my kids. I , like a fool, gave it all, in a box ,to DD when I moved away after the divorce- have no idea if she still has it . Anyway- I made a yellow blanket - full  of holes and knots and love- I don't care if she sweeps the floor with it - it was relaxing and "grandmotherly " !!!
DIL is due April 24th with my first grandchild . We now know it's a girl ! Can't wait to meet Joanna Mae !Baby shower is March 4th and I definatly over-did it . Bought the crib bedding  and tons of outfits- made a Little Lamb lamp,(her pattern ) and wall hanging, re-finished a lovely little chair the plays Rock A Bye Baby and made a bookshelf. I don't care what they do with any of it (well, the crib bdding was from her registry and cost  $179 - oh, yeah, and the Lambie mobile , too !

;D ;D ;D ;D  oh Shorewill!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D  I am OVER THE MOON happy for you!!!! ;D ;D ;D  Oh, Joanna (BEAUTIFUL NAME) is one blessed little baby girl!!! Congratulations on your very first grandbaby.  You sound as excited as I had always thought I would be!!  I am soooo thrilled for you.

You are sooo right!! "That's what Grandmas do!"  I'm still gonna knit the blanket (decided this yesterday) but I think it will be her blanket when she comes to visit, and I hope that will be often. In my mind I have such plans for her! I can't wait to smell her little baby breath, and kiss her chubby feet. I envision us reading, and singing and baking, and on picnics...I envision her little face all aglow when she see me, running into my arms and wrapping chubby arms around my neck and giving me kisses....Yeah...that's what Grandmas do!

Your little one is almost here!!!  I'm so happy for you.  I'm envious about all the things you've done for her already! You go, Grandma!!!  And whoa!!! I would love to see a picture of that bedding! It must be BEAUTIFUL!!! I'm sooo happy for you.  And you know, your happiness is contagious, because I'm feeling really excited now!

Thanks for sharing!!!

Thanks, themuffin !  Today was so horrible  that I just spent the last two hours while my husband is sleeping wrapping the baby gifts- with fingers crossed for a healthy baby , of course.
The doctor and I told my husband today  that he will start "palliative care" - just one step short of Hospice. Not sure how to judge how much time he has left , but he is getting worse. In the back of my head I hear  " So often a baby comes ,and one goes ".  DH has said this, too and isn't very excited about the new baby. I hope that God has different plans for us.

For those of you with clothing from you kids I can tell you what I did with my kids baby clothes.  I kind of figured they'd be old if I held onto them until they had kids so I kept outfits that were special, ones I loved, and ones as they've gotten older they love then I called the local quilting guild and had quilts made out of them.  The memories are still there but it's something the kids can keep, carry, and give to their own children if they want.

BTW, Hi, I"m Kate and I'm a DIL.  :)  I've read for a while but registered just to give this suggestion.

My sons laughingly accused me of replacing them with dogs after they left home and I said, "Heck yes, if it does't work out I can return them to the shelter!"  ;D ;D

I actually did replace my DD with a lil shelter pooch when she left.....hehehe  oh well....I even was looking for a female and the name I picked was similar to my DD's name!!!  (not intended at all and my DD was like "No Mom!!!  That sounds like my name!!"

I ended up falling in love with a lil male dog....he's getting up there in age now....but much  more faithful.   ;)

Sorry about the late replies to this thread...I don't often get on my computer on weekends.

Shorewill, my heart broke when I read your post.  You are such a strong and amazing woman.  I pray that your DH's condition improves.  I don't have any words of comfort or wisdom. I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you. Sending you hugs and prayers...

Welcome MsKate!!!  That is an excellent idea!!!  I didn't save a lot of their clothes, I don't think I save any.  But I did save all of their books, and a lot of special toys and remote cars and books on tape.  All of the clothes were pretty done for after going thru three boys, lol.

Muffin was actually the name of a most beloved guinea pig.  She was a beautiful longed hair brown and white thing with the sweetest personality.  I've had many guinea pigs but none as special as Muffin.  I used to bring her to work and she would just sit by my side and sleep or eat her little carrots.  I will never forget her.

On the other hand Fudge is my cocker spaniel.  And I know it may be wrong to say this but we like him better than all of the children.  He brings us joy everyday of our lives.  Each time we arrive home he's soooooo excited to see us!!! And it's sincere! He doesn't want money, or sneakers and to borrow the car. He just really loves us.  He's so easy to please, he never pees on the toilet, or leaves dishes in the sink.  He's never broken anything and said "I wasn't me".  Heck, if I knew then what I know now I would not be on this site because I would have had three dogs and no children, LOL.  Just kidding.....I think.....

And yes, my DH calls Fudge "Son number one", which really irks FDIL.  Perhaps DS should not have treated DH like dog poo.
