So - My DD was in a mess , finding out that live-in boyfriend (his parent's house which they "rent") was alcoholic and graduated to cocaine. She called his parents to get the BF's "friends" out of the house at 3 AM and left him. Then she cried to me - asking for help finding an apt and commiserating with her. I said that i would not lend her any money. She then surprised me , saying that she had $1500 in the bank - was due to get paid $400 and sold the gold/diamond necklace he gave her for $200 - so , she had the first month's rent and one month's deposit for new apt . She was very worried about passing a credit check , because 9-10 yrs ago she defaulted on a college loan and had wrecked her credit. She caught up with that , paid all bills on time and has since paid off her car- so I encouraged her strongly "you can do this on your own " ( I did promise to co-sign the rental agreement , if it came to that - hoping that it wouldn't . Today she's called three times - last one to say that they rented her the apt and she passed a credit check. Hooray !!! I told her what a strong woman she was turning out to be and that I was proud of her - get this - then she said that she is removing her facial pirecing, dying her hair regular blonish brown instead of the crazy red she wears now- has sworn off alcohol and no longer wants to be seen as a "party girl" . Will wonders never cease

I know that this is only a first step, and she still wants marrriage and a family "like everybody else" (her words) but she's decided to wait and be on her own for at least a year. AND says she will never live with anyone ever again.
The apt is downstairs from one of her good ,close girlfriends ( who is an attorney ) and she says she wil be very comfortable there and able to make all her bills -even if she has to take a second job. Is this the same kid ?? She even said "I have been praying and praying. Thank the Lord ". WOW ...
