Sorry to take a little side trip here, but a memory just popped in:

I totally wanted a pony when I was a girl! I even designed and printed horse images on curtains for my room; I must have been in third grade or so & was completely horse-crazy. Whenever I asked to ride, DF would laugh and laugh. After he cheated on and subsequently divorced my mom he bought a horse for his new wife's daughter.

Sometimes you just have to chuckle at the absurdity of life.

P - I would have a very hard time chuckling over that. Good for you that you can see the humor it! Sending love...

Elsie, I really admire your strength.  I sincerely hope your son can eventually appreciate what you have done for him by not accepting his abuse.  I hope he learns to appreciate you.

LOL Pen!  Sorry we're taking off in a different direction, Elsie, but I just thought of that commercial:  where that sales guy has these 2 lil girls and asks the 1st one if she'd like a pony and she says yes and he gives her this little plastic pony toy....then the other girl is asked the same and she says yes and gets a real one......the one that got the toy pony asks why and he replies, "Well, because you didn't ask!"
that jerk.

I was horse crazy too as a kid and could never have one and a good thing too as I was highly allergic as evidenced by the hives, itching and wheezing after riding with my friend's on hers!  ;-)

Wow, Pen, you're handling that very gracefully.  I personally would have hoped that he at least stepped in a horse-pile, or got discreetly kicked, just a little bit.  My mother's father was like that.  She had to cope with his mistress having a job at his company, and then not being able to fire her when my mom inherited the company from her dad.  Ugh.

I was never a horsey kid.  They scared me.  Kittens, however, still make me melt into a puddle of incoherent goo.  "Oooh, feets!!  Who's got da little feets?!  YOU - you've got da little feets!!"  *blush*
This too shall pass.  All is well.

Just for completeness' sake, wanted to post the response I got back from GFG about the videos of his grandfather:

"Thanks and if you could transfer them to DVD in time for my 19th birthday. I would appreciate that as a present this year."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! It's like he expects me to tug my forelock and say "yessir.  right away, sir."   I don't think a response is required, do you?  LOL

I feel a song/ringtone coming on..."I want a DVD! I want a DVD!" lol

Yup, a little self-involved it seems.

Haha, thanks, Ladies.  It really is very silly.

And, yes, Firelight - the old Elsie would've hopped to.  I do actually want to get this done, and had given myself an internal timeline of May for getting the tapes converted and sending him a copy, but now I am noticing a somewhat childish reluctance in myself to do anything about it at all.  Just to be able to say "no DVD/pony for you, DS!" (Pen, you made me giggle!)  It's interesting how the entitlement makes me want to not do something I was gonna do anyway, just so I can prove to myself that I won't be controlled or manipulated.  I've still got some work to do, clearly, lol.

Haha, yes, exactly LL.  I have a mental image of DS jumping up and down and stamping his feet.

You gals are funny :)

If it makes any of you feel any better I fight with my under 10 siblings, simply because they get everything *I* wanted when I was a kid.  Go carts, bb guns...we weren't even allowed to have a squirt gun!  I don't know what got into my parents but I'm not happy with them.  *hand on my hip, snapping fingers*
