He'll never learn to whisper
and his face will not be clean
You'll tie his shoes a thousand times
and patch up all his jeans.

He'll throw the ball inside the house,
never in the yard
He'll break your priceless treasures
and leave the junk unmarred.

You'll wonder in your secret times
if this is all there is.....
just peanut butter, jelly
and one goodnight kiss.

But when he's sick, you'll sit beside
his bed the whole night through...
and pray the God grants one more day
For him to spend with you.

Dear Prissy:  Your poem is so sweet.  Made me cry since my dopey son is not talking to his parents.  But I have good memories.  I spent a week with relatives' little ones - and a number of times looked at them and wondered where we have gone wrong.  My nieces and nephew shower their little ones with love - as we did - and all I could think was I hope they never break their parents hearts.  The innocence of little ones - I have on my desk a poem that basically says if we can leave this life making one child happy we will succeed.  I know I have done that but failed with my own little boy.

Keep up the poems - just lovely.

Thank you, Mary.  It makes me cry to think about it. I wish I knew what happened when son married or why he married the person he did. Must have been what he needed.  I just drag my heart around like a big boulder now. I see all the happy families and I can hardly bear it. :)

Prissy, this was lovely....and reminded me that a mother will always be a mother, not to mention, a mother somehow always knows....
