The right direction

Today is my DD birthday.  Things have improved in the last couple of months because I have disengaged.  I have not called her in that time but she has called a couple of times.  It is tradition that we call each other first thing in the morning on our birthdays to sing Happy Birthday.  So I did that and we had a great conversation; we were both on our best behavior and the call felt loving and sincere.  I got news of my GD and a lot of other "neutral" things.  I was VERY careful not to inquire about any triggers and she did not dump any boo hoo stories on me,  In all, a great one hour conversation and I am so glad she was born on this day so I could have the joy of being her mom for all these years.  (Today I chose not to dredge up any of the bad).  Thought I would share my good day.

Thank you all so much.  This has been hard work but for today things are right with the universe and so glad that I didn't put my foot in it about her stepson (who recently moved in with them because he had been homeless).  And I did not ask once about her brother, which I usually do because nobody ever hears from him.  I stopped myself because it was her birthday and not his!  That was a big step for me to listen carefully to what I said and take every particle of judgment out of my conversation.  Deep breathe, deep breathe.  And so we could talk for an hour because we gained some trust that the other one was not going to sling something in there, or trigger something.  So I am proud I have been consistent with the help of all of you WW.  Thank you good women!!
