Plans for the weekend?
« on: August 31, 2011, 09:30:54 AM »
Not sure if this is the place to post this but I'm interested in what y'all are doing with your lives!

DH is flying out to visit our GB so it's just our 2 Scotties and me.  Our business is slowing down but I'll still be answering phones and setting up jobs.   The weather is going to cool down finally so I hope to get some gardening done, and visit the local end of summer festival in town.   On Saturday, I may go to the Big City to meet a group that gathers to watch U of Alabama football at a restaurant.

Anyone have any fun plans for the weekend?

We're going to my Mom's cottage.  We'll probably bring the boat and the docks in, although it's supposed to rain.

My Mom lives a good 6 hrs away during the winter, so we try and take advantage of having her only 1.5 hrs away during the summer.  DD and my Mom have a really close relationship, they just delight in each other.

DH will fish.  We may have a campfire (depending on the bugs).  I'll bring some indoor crafts.  We'll work on a puzzle.  It'll be fun, even if it rains.

I have a family reunion Saturday at an Aunt and Uncle's cabin on their lake.  Usually a big event with about 100 people and anything that can't be tied down will be deep fried!  I have the holiday off, but DH has to work Sunday and Monday so I will be probably do some packing for the cruise and catch up on housework the other two days.

Oh, time at a lake sounds heavenly!   It's so dry around here - some leaves are starting to turn.

Luise, I'm curious.  Do your friends where you live know about your online world?

Your question could easily take us away from the subject here but thanks for asking, Doe. Yes. I have lived here ( www.WarmBeach.org ) for 11 years and was very visible for the first five years as an on campus volunteer. When I become confined six years ago because my care taking started keeping me home, I went online and started working there. I have received two prestigious awards for my online work, one from the Foss Foundation and one from the Bank of America and was runner up for Volunteer of the Year in western WA. It is the staff here that submitted me as a candidate each time without my even knowing it. The last award brought a $5,000 grant to the charity of my choice, which was this nonprofit campus and specifically, a fund for residents in need.

I'm glad to hear you've gotten the recognition you deserve.  You have truly made a difference in my life in the short time I've been here.

Isn't she great!

Doe, I also noticed on my drive in this morning, some leaves changing.  I have a feeling it's not going to be a pretty fall because of the dryness of everything.

Where I live, we're supposed to have a lovely warm weekend.  Labour Day weekend our city has a Ribfest in a park by the waterfront, so DH and I will probably head down there Sat., buy some ribs, maybe some corn on the cob, graba chair and enjoy.  There are always some local bands playing so we'll be enjoying the music.  Then Sun. pm it's a BBQ with our cousin.  It's not often we have steak, so it'll be steaks on the BBQ,and some good laughs.
Hope everyone has an excellent weekend.

I'm pretty sure ribs & corn will make an appearance here too, but we're cooking at home. Glad to have an extra day off!

Sounds like a great life we all have. Enjoying the moment with awareness of the limits of time.
I'm full of admiration for you, Luise. You are doing so much amazing stuff and this site is just wonderful, so life-enhancing. Glad to hear that your work is appreciated in a wider circle. You are a model to me, this 61 year old who sometimes thinks that she's not got a lot more to give after a life of teaching. It must be a phase. I'll get back in there somehow. Our Age is not on our birth certificate, is it?

Teaching will take it out of you for sure. My teacher friends who've retired find themselves sitting and staring into space for the first year. You'll find yourself, Chelms, once you start filling yourself up again with things that fulfill and please you. And I agree that Luise is a great role model.

Thanks! I think being 84 is a hoot. I am learning every day. My Websites take about 4 hours a day and I visit Val (100 year-old husband) at our campus nursing home every day and take him his dog. I have a "gentlemen-friend" who brings me much joy and family, friends and a community that couldn't be beat. I'm as healthy as a horse and do Curves three days a week, aerobics twice a week and Zumba on Sats.
