Wow, I just had this conversation with my dear friend a few minutes ago. For those negative, manipulative, hurtful people we can't avoid (bosses or co-workers, for example) we can refuse, politely but firmly, to engage. We can give ourselves permission to have strategies in place so we're not alone with them or coerced into engaging in a fruitless, sabotaging conversation. It's OK to take care of ourselves in this way! Who knew?
