Interesting. Good luck!

I'm particularly interested in entitlement, specifically that exhibited by DIL & her FOO who swept in and took over DS's life. We've been shellshocked ever since. We're just an afterthought most times.

If the opposite were true, if we had swept in and taken over DIL's life and kept her from her FOO, I think some people would call it a form of abuse.
Respect ... is appreciation of the separateness of the other person, of the ways in which he or she is unique.

God it's awful to say, but it really helps to know its not just ME! I was prepared for the pull away for the two of them to be together, I wasn't prepared for the pull away and the absorption into HER family. It's almost as though her mother adopted him, its very strange.  :o

I am sure interested. It's not a dynamic I grew up with. I never saw it when I was a young bride or a even a young MIL. I don't know if I was too unaware or if it a societal shift. Families "absorbing" (for lack of a better word) a SIL feels so pathological.

trying my best,

enjoyed your writing, funny, thought provoking.  and yes, I hadn't thought of it quite like this but my DIL has
cut off all of my sons extended family and he does seem to be being absorbed into her family.  She threatens me
too with cut offs.
